Racers Rest is a painting near to my heart, I originally took the reference photo when visiting my mother in St Vincent’s hospital Sydney, after becoming overwhelmed I needed an interruption. Colours have always had a calming influence on me and on this particular day at golden hour in the marina of the Sydney Yacht Club, the reflections of the boats and autumn colours in the gentle ripples of the water floored me. Now, ten years later I have recreated the feeling I had that day. A sense of sadness but a reassuring beauty that only the surrounds of home can have.
Capturing the loose and cosy feeling of autumn in the marina through gestural and abstract strokes. Where crews and their vessels shelter and rest after a long day.
